Springfield Centre, the largest village, is beautifully located within a short distance of Otsego Lake, and is in daily communication, by stage, with Fort Plain, on the New York Central railroad, and also with Richfield Springs and Cherry Valley. During the summer season it is brought in close communication with Cooperstown by stages which connect with the lake steamers. It is pleasantly located in the midst of a rich agricultural region, and is a prosperous and progressive village. It contains two churches and the following business interests:
Springfield Centre has a beautiful cemetery, containing eleven acres, situated on an eminence a short distance north of the village. It is one of the finest rural cemeteries in the county, and reflects much credit upon the enterprising citizens of the vicinity. |
