Deed on file at Putnam County Clerk's office Book 32, Page 35, between Stephen Knapp and his wife Lydia Ann and Samuel Head, all of Carmel. Witnessed by William B. Hazelton, Justice of Peace, dated 31 March 1857 and filed 3 April 1857. Consideration of $1150. Land described is in Carmel:

In the middle of the highway leading from Red Mills to Jefferson Valley and southeast corner of ALFRED ADAM'S lands thence along said Adam's land north 81 1/4 degrees west 4 chains 37 links to corner thence along the same north 1 degree 30 minutes east 4 chins 23 links thence along the same north 81 1/4 degrees west 2 chains 15 links to northwest corner of meadow thence southerly with the stone wall as it now stands 13 chains 85 links to the middle of the highway aforesaid thence with the same southwesterly (5?) chains 57 links to the corner of JOHN D. LOUNSBERRY land thence southwesterly 1 1/2 degrees east 3 chains 20 links to SARAH KIRKHAM'S land thence north 83 degrees east 4 chains 80 links to corner of wall then north with the stone wall 1 chain, 27 links to lane then west 17 links then northerly with lane to middle of wood and northeasterly with same to the place of beginning. (Containing 10 acres).
