Welcome to Amagansett, Suffolk County

Amagansett, retaining the Indian name of the locality, is a village lying near the ocean. It occupies one mile in length on a single street, is beautifully located, three iles east of Easthampton, and is the easternmost village on this brance of the island. An ancient grave-yard is located in the eastern part. Settlment is supposed to have commenced but a few years after the first settlement of the town. The soil in the neighborhood is a dard rich loam, and the inhabitants are mostly farmers. A Methodist Espicopal church was erected in this village in 1847, It stands in the western part. A Presbyterian church was bult here in 1860.
