Charlotte County

Charlotte County was originally formed on March 12, 1772, and taken from Albany by the Legislature of New York.  The name, "Charlotte" was given in honor of Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III.

On April 2, 1784, the Legislature passed an act which changed the name of Charlotte, to "Washington County," due to bitter feelings after the American Revolutionary War.

Query/Surname and Biography/Obituary boards are available at the Washington County site.
