ANTHONY LAMB was appointed Overseer (Chief Engineer) at a salary of
twelve pounds a year. He was a Englishman who had come to the city and
established himself as a mathematical instrument maker. He kept for many
years a well-known establishment at the sign of the Quadrant and Surveying
Compass in the vicinity of Old Slip. He was the father of General Lamb, of
Revolutionary memory. Lamb held the office of Chief Engineer, or Overseer,
until 1736, when he was succeeded by Jacob Turk
