Marriage Certificate Abel WASHBURN and Rebecca BIRDSALL, 19d 5m 1830 

Whereas Abel WORSHBURN of the town of New Castle county of West-Chester and of New York, son of Elijah WORSHBURN and Hannah his wife, the latter deceased and Rebecca BIRDSALL daughter of Thomas BIRDSALL and Elizabeth his wife, of the town of North Castle and county aforesaid having laid their intentions of marriage with each other before two monthly meetings of the religious Society of friends held at Purchase and Scarsdale in the state aforesaid, they having consent of parents and nothing appearing to obstruct their proposals of marriage was allowed by the meeting.

These are to certify That for the accomplishment of their intentions this nineteenth day of the fifth month, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty, they the said Abel WORSHBURN and Rebecca BIRDSALL appeared in a public meeting of the said Society, held at Purchase, and the said Abel WORSHBURN taking the said Rebecca BIRDSALL by the hand did on this solemn occasion, declare that he took her to be his wife promising through Divine assistance to be unto her a faithful and loving husband until separated by Death, or words to that effect.  And then the said Rebecca BIRDSALL did in like manner declare that she took the said Abel WORSHBURN to be her husband promising through Divine assistance to be unto him a faithful and loving wife until separated by Death, or words to that import.  And they the said Abel WORSHBURN and Rebecca BIRDSALL she according to the custom of Marriage assuming the name of her husband as a further confirmation thereof, did then and there to these presents set their hands.
