Marriage Certificate Gabriel COUTANT and Sarah DEGARMO, 23d 5m 1833 

Gabriel COUTANT of the Town of New Paltz County of Ulster and State of New York Son of Jacob COUTANT and Phebe his wife (both Deceased) and Sarah D GARMO of the town of Hyde Park County of Dutchess and State aforesaid Daughter of Elias and Sarah D GARMO (deceased) haveing laid their intentions of Marriage with each other before two Monthly Meetings of the Religious Society of friends held at the Creek and Crumelbow in the State of New York and nothing appearing to obstruct their proposals of Marriage were approved by the Meeting.  These are to Certify that for the accomplishment of these intentions this 23rd day of 5th mo. in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty three the said Gabriel COUTANT and Sarah D GARMO appeared in a public meeting of said Society held at Crumelbow and the said Gabriel COUTANT takeing the said Sarah D GARMO by the hand did on this Solemn occasion declare that he took her to be his wife promiseing through divine assistance to be unto her a faithfull and effectionate husband until sepperated by death or words to that effect and then the said Sarah D GARMO did in like manner declare that she took the said Gabriel COUTANT to be her Husband promiceing through devine assistance to be unto him a faithful and effectionate wife until sepperated by death or words to that import and they the said Gabriel COUTANT and Sarah D GARMO She according to the custom of Marriage assuming the name of her Husband as a farther confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents Set their hands.
