Marriage certificate of John SUTTON and  Phebe BIRDSALL,17d 4m 1793 

Whereas John SUTTON, Son of John SUTTON deceased and Anna his wife of Bedford, in the County of Westchester and State of New York & Phebe BIRDSALL Daughter of Zadock BIRDSALL and Levinah his Wife of the town in the County and State aforesaid have said and declared there Intentions of Marriage with each other before two Meetings of the people Called Quakers held at Cornwall Shapaqua in the County & State aforesaid.  According to the said order used amongst them and they having Consent of parents and parties Consent & Nothing appearing to obstruct their said proposals are allowed of by said meeting.

Now these are to Certify all wheme It may Concern that for the full accomplishment of their Intentions this 17th day of Forth Mo. 1793.  They the said John SUTTON & Phebe BIRDSALL Appeared In a publick meeting of the said people at Amawalk aforesaid the said John SUTTON takeing the said Phebe BIRDSALL By the hand, did In a Solomn Manner Openly declare that he took the said Phebe Birdsall to be his Wife, promiseing through devine Assistance to be unto her a faithfull & Loveing husband untill Death Sepirate them or words to that Effect.  Then and their In the said Assembly the Said Phebe BIRDSALL did In like manner Openly declare that She took the said John SUTTON to be her Husband promiseing through devine Assistance to be Unto him A faithfull & Loveing Wife Untill Death Seperated them or Words to that Import.

& More Over they the said John SUTTON and Phebe BIRDSALL She according to the Custom of Marriage Assuming the Name of her husband as a further Confirmation thereof did then And there to these presents Set their Hands and we Whose names Are hereto Subscribed being present at the Solemnization of said Marriage and Subscription have as Witnesses thereunto set our Hands the day and year above Mention.
