Marriage Certificate John Y. BARRETT and Martha T. TOWNSEND, 31d 3m 1831 

John Y. BARRETT of the Town of Cornwall County of Orange and State of New York Son of Absalom BARRETT and Deborah his Wife and Martha T. TOWNSEND daughter of Thomas TOWNSEND and Mercy his Wife of the Town, County, and State aforesaid Having laid their intentions of Marriage with Each other before two Monthly Meetings of the Religious Society of friends held at Cornwall and the Clove and nothing appearing to obstruct their proposal of Marriage was allowed by the Meeting.  These are to Certify that for the accomplishment of their intentions this thirty first day of the Third month in the year of Our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty one  they the Said John Y. BARRETT and Martha T. TOWNSEND appeared in a publick Meeting of Said Society held at Cornwall and the Said John Y. BARRETT Taking the Said Martha T. TOWNSEND by the hand did on this Solemn occasion declare that he took her to be his wife promising through Divine assistance to be unto her a faithful and Loveing Husband until Sepperated by death or words to that Effect and then the Said Martha T. TOWNSEND did in like Manner Declare that she took the Said John Y. BARRETT to be her Husband promising through divine assistance to be unto him a faithful and loving Wife until Sepperated by Death or words to that import and they the Said John Y BARRETT and Martha T TOWNSEND She according to the custom of Marriage assuming the name of her husband as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents Set their hands
