Marriage Certificate Joseph H. SMITH and Phebe G. SEAMAN, 1d 10m 1835 

Joseph H. SMITH of the City, County and State of New York Son of Jacob SMITH and Deborah his wife and Phebe G. SEAMAN Daughter of Silas SEAMAN and Hannah his wife of the Town of Blooming Grove Orange County State of New York Having laid their Intentions of Marriage with each other before Two Monthly Meetings of the religious Society of Friends held alternately at Cornwall and Smiths Clove in the State of New York they having consent of Parents & nothing appearing to obstruct their Proposal of Marriage was allowed By the Meeting these are to Certify that for the accomplishment of their intentions this first day of the Tenth Month in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & Thirty Five they the said Joseph H. SMITH and Phebe G. SEAMAN appearance in a public Meeting of said Society held at Blooming Grove and the said Joseph H. SMITH taking the said Phebe G. SEAMAN by the hand did on this solemn occasion declare that he took her to be his Wife promising through Divine assistance to be unto her a faithfull and loving Husband until separated by Death or words to that Effect & then the said Phebe G. SEAMAN did in like manner declare that she took the said Joseph H. SMITH to be her Husband promising through Divine assistance to be unto him a faithfull & loving wife until separated by Death or words to that import and they the said Joseph H. SMITH and Phebe G. SEAMAN she according to the custom of Marriage assuming the name of her Husband as a further confirmation thereof did then & there to these presents set their hands
