Whereas Nathan WILBER of the Town of Clinton County of Dutchess and state of New York son of Thomas WILBER and Elizabeth his wife the former deceased and Deborah TOMKINS daughter of Brundage and Phebe TOMPKINS the former deceased of the town of New Castle County of Westchester and state aforesaid having lain their intentions of Marriage with each other before two monthly meetings of the religious society of Friends held at New Castle in the state aforesaid they having consent of parents and nothing appearing to obstruct their proposals of Marriage was allowed by the meeting. These are to certify that for the accomplishment of their intentions this tenth day of eighth month in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight they the said Nathaniel WILBER and Deborah TOMPKINS appeared in a public meeting held at New Castle and the said Nathan WILBER taking the said Deborah TOMPKINS by the hand did on this solemn occasion declare that he took her to be his Wife promising through divine assistance to be unto her a faithful and loving husband until seperated by death or words to that effect; and then the said Deborah TOMPKINS did in the like manner declare that she took the said Nathan WILBER to be her husband promising through divine assistance to be unto him a faithful and affectionate wife until seperated by death or words to that import And they the said Nathan WILBER and Deborah TOMPKINS she according tot he custom of marriage assuming the name of her husband, as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands Nathan WILBER Deborah TOMPKINS[sic] And we being present have subscribed our names as witnesses thereof
