Marriage Certificate Nathaniel TOMPKINS and Maria RICKETSON, 25d 10m 1827

Nathaniel TOMPKINS of the Town of Newcastle County of Westchester and state of New York Son of Brundage TOMPKINS and Phebe his wife; and Maria RICKETSON Daughter of Jonathan RICKETSON and Sarah his wife of the town of union vail County of Dutchess and State aforesaid having laid their intentions of Marriage with each other before to Monthly Meetings of the religious Society of Friends held at Oswego in the town, County and state last mentioned they having consent of Parents and nothing appearing to obstruct their proposals of Marriage was allowed by the Meeting; these are to certify that for the accomplishment of their intentions this Twenty fifth day of the Tenth Month in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven they the said Nathaniel TOMPKINS and Maria RICKETSON appeared in a public Meeting of said Society held in the town of Beekman; and the said Nathaniel TOMPKINS taking the said Maria RICKETSON by the hand did on this solemn occasion declare that he took her to be his wife promising Through Divine assistance to be unto her a faithful and loving husband until separated by death or words to that effect and then the said Maria RICKETSON did in like maner declare that she took the said Nathaniel TOMPKINS to be her husband promising through Divine assistance to be unto him a faithful and loving wife untill separated by death or words to that import. And they the said Nathaniel TOMPKINS and Maria RICKETSON she according to the custom of marriage assuming the name of her husband, as a further confirmation thereof, did then and there to these presents set their hands.
