Peter V. COUTANT of the town of Hurley County of Ulster and State of New York son of Samuel COUTANT and Margaret his wife and Rowlin ROBINSON and Bathsheba his Wife[sic] of the town of Esopus County and state aforesaid having laid their intentions of Marriage with Each other before two monthly meetings of the religious society of Friends held at Plains and Paltz in the state aforesaid they having Consent of Parents and nothing appearing to obstruct their Proposal of Marriage was allowed by the Meeting: These are therefore to Certify that for the accomplishment oftheir marriage this twenty ninth day of the Eleventh Month in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty one. They the said Peter V. COUTANT taking the said Rachel ROBINSON by the hand did on this solemn occasion declare that he took her to be his Wife promising through divine assistance to be unto her a faithful and loving husband, untill separated by death or words to that effect, and then the said Rachel ROBINSON did in like manner declare that she took him him[sic] to be her Husband Promosing through Divine assistance to be unto him a faithful & loving Wife untill lseparated by death or words to that import and they the sd. Peter V. COUTANT & Rachel ROBINSON she according to the custom of Marriage assuming the name of husband as a farther Conformation thereof Then and there to these Present set their hands Peter V. COUTANT Rachel COUTANT And we being Present, have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereof:
