Marriage certificate Solomon BARTON and Abby Jane SUTTON, 15d 10m 1845

Solomon BARTON of the town of Monkton, County of Addison State of Vermont, son of Solmon and Phebe BARTON, both deceased, and Abby Jane SUTTON daughter of Moses and Rebecca SUTTON both deceased of the town of Somers County of Westchester and State of New York having laid their intentions of Marriage with each other before two Monthly Meetings of the religious Society of Friends held at New Castle in the State of New York, and nothing appearing to obstruct, their proposals of Marriage was allowed by the meeting. These are to certify that for the accomplishment that for of their intentions, this the fifttenth day of tenth month in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty five, they the said Solomon BARTON and Abby Jane SUTTON appeared in a publick Meeting of said society held at Croton Valley in town, County and State aforesaid, and the said Solomon BARTON taking the said Abby Jane SUTTON by the hand did on this solemn occasion declare that he took her to be his wife promising through divine assistance to be unto her a kind and faithful husband untill seperated by death, or words to that effect; and then the said Abby J. SUTTON did in like manner declare that she took the said Solomon BARTON to be her husband and promising through divine assistance to be unto him a kind and faithful wife until seperated by death, or words to that import. And they the said Solomon BARTON and Abby Jane SUTTON she according to the custom of marriage assuming the name of her husband, as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these Presents set their hands.
