Marriage Certificate Stephen D. MARSHALL and Phebe HALSTEAD, 28d 5mo 1818  

Whereas Stephen D. MARSHALL of the Town of Clinton County of Dutchess & State of New York Son of Zachius and Susanna his wife the latter deceased and Phebe HALSTED Daughter of Stephen and Mary his wife of the Town of the of the[sic] Town of Beekman, County & State aforesaid having said their intentions of Marriage with each other before two Monthly Meetings of the religious Society of Friends held at Oswego in the State aforesaid they having Consent of Parents and nothing appearing to obstruct there said proposals of Marriage were allowed by the Meeting.  These are to certify that for the accomplishment of their intentions this 28th day of 5th Month in the year of our Lord 1818 they the said Stephen D. MARSHALL & Phebe HALSTED appeared in a public Meeting of said Society held at Poguage and the said Stephen D. MARSHALL taking the said Phebe HALSTED by the hand did in a solemn manner declare that he took her to be his wife promising through Divine [sic] to be unto her a faithful and loveing husband untill separated by Death or words to that Efect.  And then the said Phebe Halsted did in like manner Declare that she took the said Stephen D. MARSHALL to be hir husband promiseing through Divine assistance to be unto him a faithful and loving wife untill separated by Death or words to that import And they the said Stephen D. MARSHALL & Phebe HALSTED she according to the sustom of Marriage assuming [line deleted] thereof Did then & there to these presents set their hands
