ARCHIE S. SMITH
July 22, 1910 - August 4, 1961

ARCHIE was the son of William and Elizabeth (Leech) Smith, attended school in Pleasant Valley, worked for Central Hudson, was a member of the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church and the Poughkeepsie Elks Club.  He owned and operated Archie S. Smith Photography and was a Volunteer Fireman and the Departments Treasurer for 25 years.  In 1955 the legendary flood of that year devasted the family home.  The little brown house where the Smith Family lived was directly behind the fire station and it was in the cellar of this house where Archie built a Dark Room and processed much of his own work.

Submitted by his daughter, Joanne Smith Melanson, joanne@ncia.net AHS Class of 1972.  Joanne has many of her father's pictures depicting the 1955 Flood in Pleasant Valley and Winter Pictures depicting various snow storms, the height of the snow banks etc. that she is willing  to share with others in the form of a historical presentation.  Please contact Joanne at her e-mail address given above, just to say Hi or if you are interested in a historical presentation.
