THE SON OF A GUN!
A man without credit
May oft be in need,
A man without money
Is hampered, indeed,
But of all mean creatures
"Neath God's shining sun
The man without backbone
Is the very worst one.
A man without backbone
Is worthless, indeed, A drag to his party,
His cult or his creed;
He shrinks from all danger
While fighting is done
Then boasts of his courage~
The son of a gun!
He skulks in the darkness
Afraid of the light
While his comrades fight on
in the ranks of the right
When fighting is over
And victory's won,
He'll strut, the vain braggart,
The son of a gun!
