VICTOR LLOYD BARTH, son of Max and Mary (Lloyd) Barth, was born Dec. 10, 1922 on a farm in Beaver County. He passed from our lives on Dec. 31, 2005 at the Woodward Regional Hospital and Health Center at the age of 83 after a sudden illness.
Victor graduated from Shattuck High School in 1940. He then went to Oklahoma A&M where he played baseball. He was contracted by the Detroit Tigers to play professional baseball but was drafted by the U.S. Army into the 45th Division of the Corp of Engineers. He served in Europe during World War II where he earned a Bronze Star for bravery. He served once again in the Korean War. He was a natural leader and quickly rose to the rank of captain.
He married Allene Pearl Stevens on Aug. 31, 1952 in the Christian Church of Oklahoma City. They began their married life residing for two years in the town of Shattuck. They moved to a farm 14 miles north of Shattuck where they resided until Allene's death on September 27, 1999. Victor remained on the farm until after his death.
Victor served as a member of the Shattuck School Board for many years. He always enjoyed helping and teaching young men the art of pitching and playing the game of baseball.
Victor was a special man who was devoted to his family. He was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed anything. Vic loved hunting, trapping and growing his garden. He was giving and considerate to everyone. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include: One son, Steven Allen Barth and wife Gena of Delaware, Okla.; four daughters, Sherry Wiggins and husband, Russel, of Owasso, Okla., Rita Gail Kerby and husband, Alan, of Woodward, Okla., Donna Victor and husband, Grant, of Afton, Okla., Peggy Barth of Anson, Texas and a very special friend is Lola Stevens of Woodward, Okla., and a special family member Billy McDaniel of Las Vegas, Nev.; 12 grandchildren, Taylor, Hannah, Brennon and Brinellyn Barth, Amanda, Russel and Ryan Wiggins, Chad and Cole Mead, Trey, John and Brooks Victor; one great-grandson, Jake Mead, and a host of other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Max and Mary Barth, wife Allene, one daughter Carol Louise Barth, one grandson Corben Victor Barth and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Garrison officiating. Interment was in the Popular Grove Cemetery, Beaver County, Okla. under direction of Mason Funeral Home, Shattuck, Okla.
Memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund care of Susan Godfrey, Shattuck, Okla.
