Katie Perliee Barton was born April 3, 1912 south of Sayre, Oklahoma to James Matison and Elia Frances (Joslin)Barton. Her family lived in Sayre area until her father's death in 1917, then lived in various places in Oklahoma, Harrah, Seminole County, Caddo County, Ellis County, and setteling at Pinkston and Grand. Katie attened school from the 1st grade through the 8th grade. Graduating 8th grade at the Pinkston School.
On September 14, 1929 Katie married Emeral Joseph "Bud" Clark. They had four children; Dorothy Louise, Emeral Joseph Jr. "Junior", Nina Fay and Jerry Lee. They settled in Arnett.
Katie worked hard during her life. As a young child she helped her brothers and sister pick cotton, milk cows and help their mother take in laundry to make money to feed the family. After her children were grown, Katie worked at the Circle C Cafe for many years. when Bud passed away in 1978 she did babysitting for several years. She always loved children.
Katie loved gardening and always got compliments on her flowere gardens. She and bud enjoyed building onto their home. She loved all of her family very deeply as well as her neighbors and friends. Katie was babtized at Grank, Oklahoma and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arnett.
Mrs. Clark died on Tuesday, August 28th 2001 ant the Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, at the age of 89 years, four months and 25 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers; Bennie, Lewis, Paul, Jesse Joseph, John Anthony and Woodrow Wilson Barton, 1 sister, Edna Kornelia Daniels, one son; Junior Clark, one granddaughter; Darlena Kay Clark, 1 grandson; Rocky Jay Clark. and one great granddaughter, Dacie Lynae Clark.
Katie is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Rice of Canyon, Texas; Nina Koch and husband, Ervin of Lipscomb, Texas; one son, Jerry Clark and wife Cletha of Arnett; one daughter-in-law, Etta Clark of arnett; one sister-in-law, Waneta Clark of Shattuck; nine grandchilren, fourteen geat grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2001, from the Arnett First Baptist Church in Arnett, with Pastor Terry Jackson officiating. Interment was in the DeBolt Cemetery with the Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck in charge of arrangements.
