Funeral services for Leon Walter Girton, age 48, were held Wednesday, November 29, 1967 at 2 p.m. in the first Methodist Church of Gage. Rev. A. O. McDonald and Rev. W. C. Towns officiated. Interment was in the Bickford Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Southwest Mortuary.

Leon Walter Girton was born November 6, 1919 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Mr. And Mrs. Walter L Girton. He attended the Ellis County Schools, graduating from Gage High School in 1937. He was well known in the athletic field and at the age of nineteen won a trophy in the light heavy weight bout of the Golden Glove Boxing Match in New Mexico.

He married Carrie Irene Steinly on March 31, 1939 in Cheyenne. They made their home in Chaney Community where they farmed until 1942 when they moved to California where he worked as an assistant cashier for the Southern Pacific Railroad until the entered the army in 1945. After his discharge, they returned to their farm in the Chaney Community where he farmed and raised cattle. He retired in 1954 due to failing health. They moved to Gage that year.

Mr. Girton passed away Sunday night due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier that day.

Survivors are his wife, of the home, two sons; Gary Dean and Larry Gene of the home; two daughters; Mrs. Julianna Otts of Amarillo and Jane Belle Girton of Las Aminas, Colorado; one sister Mrs. Ruby Cresswell of Gage; a niece, other relatives and friends.
