Walter L. Girton, son of C. W. and Mary E. Girton, was born January 30th, 1880, in Harrison County, Iowa. He departed this life August 20th 1959, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 20 days.
At the age of 13, he was converted and joined the Methodist church at Magnolia, Iowa. Until his health failed, he attended church regularly. Walter never complained about his health although he hadn't been well for several years. He was the last survivor of a family of twelve boys. At the age of 22 he came to Beaver County, Okla., with three of his brothers. He filed on a claim in 1902, later moving to a farm north of Gage.
In 1908, he was married to Bertha E. Hull. To this union four children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife and two children, who died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing, one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Cresswell, one son, Leon W. Girton, both of Gage; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
With a cherry smile and a wave of the hand, I'm traveling on the to that distant land. Nor more sorrows, no more pain. Where I'm going we'll live again. The cares of the world all left behind. With no sorrow or worries to trouble my mind.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church by the pastor C. L. Bolding and burial was in Bickford Cemetery near Catesby.
