Valjean Johns was born in Shattuck, Oklahomay, on November 19, 1934. His parents were Edgar C. and Perle (Ent) Johns. He passed from this life on February 10, 2003 after battling a lengthy illness with kidney failure.
Val attended school in Shattuck, graduating in 1953. He continued his education at the University of Oklahoma receiving his degree with honors in music in 1957. After graduating, he served his country in the U. S. Army. Upon completion of his military service, he moved to Hollywood, California, where he began his life long dream to be engaged in writing music and entertaining. Val was an accomplished pianist, composter and entertainer, winning many awards for his outstanding talents.
Val returned to Shattuck in 1988 to care for his ailing father. He continued to live in Shattuck until his death.
His parents, Edgar and Perle and brother Harold proeded Val in death. He is survived by cousin Sue Hunt of Drummond, Oklahoma, other cousins and a host of friends.
Memorial services were held Saturday, February 15, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shattuck High School Chaffin Auditorium with Pastor Kenneth Platte and Dr. Richard McFarlin officiating. Services ere by Mason Funeral Home.
