Fred F. Meyer
1889 - 1963

Fred F. Meyer son of Johannes Freidrich and Eva Elisabeth (Wassenmiller) Meier was born Aug.30, 1889 in Tscherbakowka, German Volga colonies, Russia, and was baptized in infancy. He immigrated with his parents arriving in Lehigh, Marion Co., KS on Nov 4, 1891. He lived there 10 years and then moved with the family to Shattuck, OK Apr. 1, 1901. At 16 he was confirmed in the Lutheran Church near Goodwin, OK. He was united in marriage on Dec. 15, 1912, to Margaret Stuertz of Fargo, OK, in the Lutheran church southeast of Shattuck by Rev. John Schrader. To this union were born a daughter and two sons, Ralph A.F., Vivian, and Eugene H. He dedicated his life to his Lord and Savior on Sept. 28, 1916. Later he was united with the St. John's Congregational Church in Follett, TX as one of the founders and remained a faithful member serving as an officer most of the time, and living a dedicated life of service to God until his death.

On 19 Dec 1919, brother Meyer moved his family from Shattuck to Follett, TX. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad (as a section foreman) until retirement at age 65. He & Margaret celebrated 50 years of marriage on 16 Dec. 1962 with 300 guests registered. He lived for this day with great expectancy and enjoyed meeting his many friends. He entered the Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck on Jan. 8, 1963 for surgery, returned home for several weeks and returned to the hospital on Mar. 27, 1963. He went to meet his Lord at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 1 day on Mar. 31, 1963.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving and devoted wife, Margaret; his children, Ralph of Waynoka, (OK); Eugene of Port Orchard, WA; and Mrs. Merlin Laubhan of Follett, (TX); seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Olinda Karst of Bremerton, WA; Mrs. Leah Kerbs, Mrs. Molly Meyer, and Mrs. Ruth Ehrlich, all of Shattuck; and Ophelia Fischer of Chattanooga, OK; two brothers, Jacob and Alvin of Shattuck, and a host of relatives and friends. His parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

(Somewhere in his early adulthood, Fred changed the spelling of his surname from Meier to Meyer).
