We are each one unique in GOD'S sight, I, Geneva, have decided to write my own obituary and reflect upon my life.

Geneva (Eagon) Oblander was the fifth child, the second daughter, of Homer Orville and Elsie (Richardson) Eagon. I was born north of Gage, Oklahoma on May 23, 1928, but celebrated May 21st as my birthday. That is a long story that only close relatives know.

I attended Gage school until my junior year of high school when my family moved to Shattuck. I graduated from Shattuck High Schoolin 1946, and then attended Hill's Business School in Oklahoma City for a short time. I returned to Shattuck and started working for the Newman Clinic in 1947, the day after the tornado.

On January 11, 1948, Geneva and Robert L. Oblander were married. To this union three children were born Richard, Janice Marie, and Janet. Their two daughters died as infants. Robert and Geneva decided to increase their family another way. Several years later, Jack and Deborah joined our family. Then after our children had graduated from high school we were asked to become foster parents. At that time we took David Keeton into our home and hearts.

I became a Christian in the early years of my marriage. I was a Sunday school teacher, Secretary and Treasurer of the Church of God for many years. Later I attended the Church of the Nazarene and the First Baptist Church.

I worked for the Newman Clinic, which later became Newman Physicians Group, and the Newman Pharmacy, as the bookkeeper for over 50 years.

I have been called some very special names in my lifetime here are a few. "Honey" by my husband, especially when he wanted me to do something special for him like drive the tractor. "Mother" or "Mom" by four special children Richard, Jack, Deb, and David. "G.O." by all the people at work. "Grandma, Grandma O, and Grams" by my grandchildren and also a few who were not my grandchildren but they were special, special and I loved them too. "Aunt Geneva" by some nieces and nephews. "Aunt NeeNee" by most of the Eagon nieces and nephews. Now I have become a Great Grandma and they call me "G.G.".

Geneva was preceded in death by her daughters, Janice Marie and Janet; by parents, Homer and Elsie Eagon; brothers, Dennis, Herschel, and Orville; sisters, Alretta Eagon and Coeta Jackson.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; by children, Richard Oblander and wife Linda of Shattuck, OK, Jack Oblander and wife Trish of Asher, OK, Deborah West and husband Bill of Newton, KS, and David Keeton of Colorado. She was loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lisa Fisher and husband Mark and children Liberty and Levi of Stillwater, OK, Michelle Woods and husband Joshua and children Ellery and Tead of Shattuck, OK, Stryder Oblander of Oklahoma City, OK, Yolanda Self and husband Chuck and children Ryan, Jake, Quentin, and Nathan of Newton, KS, Nikki Frauier and children A.J. and Tommy of Hutchinson, KS, Ian West and children Brandon and Tiffany of Newton, KS, Kyle Keeton of Laverne, OK, Franklin Keeton and wife Amanda and children Andrew and Isaac of Vici, OK, and Cody Keeton of Woodward, OK. Geneva is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Johnson and husband Melford of Wichita, KS and Lenora Williams and husband Robert of Duncanville, TX, and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the memorial of your choice. Services will be held at the First BaptistChurch in Shattuck on Friday, February 13, 2009 @ 1:30 p.m. with burial following at the Shattuck Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home of Shattuck and condolences may be sent to the family at shawfuneralhome.net.
