Woodward, Okla. — David C. Schickedanz, 59 year old Edmond resident and former Fargo resident, died Saturday, August 9, 2009 in the Grace Living Center in Edmond. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Liberty Baptist Church in Fargo, Oklahoma with the Reverend Donnie Hiegle officiating. Interment will be in the Fargo Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
David Charles Schickedanz was born on May 25, 1950 at Shattuck, Oklahoma to Ray Mason and Dorothy Cleota (Stevens) Schickedanz. David grew up on the family farm south of Fargo. He attended Fargo school and was the Valedictorian of his graduating class of 1968. David then enrolled at Panhandle State College, where he attended for two years, before transferring to OSU for one year. He completed his formal education at Northwestern State College at Alva, where he graduated in 1974 with his Bachelor of Science degree.
In 1973 David was married to Alice Diane Allbritton at Gage, Oklahoma. Their first home was at Kingman, Kansas, where David began his long career in law enforcement. He worked with several police and sheriff's departments in Kansas and Oklahoma and had been a detective on the Village Police Department in Oklahoma City. David had also served as a park ranger at Roman Nose State Park. He was later married to Verna O'Bannion at Emporia, Kansas.
David enjoyed gardening, fishing, taking his sons duck and quail hunting, reading and his duties as a police officer. He always tried to be honest, responsible and fair in carrying out his law enforcement assignments.
David was a member of the Britton Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and had served as Chaplain for the Oklahoma Fraternal Order of Police.
David is survived by his mother Dorothy Schickedanz of Fargo, Oklahoma, three sons, Caleb Schickedanz and wife Abby of Olathe, Kansas, Cody Schickedanz and wife Jocelyn of Manhattan, Kansas; Cacy Schickedanz and wife Mary Katherine of Council Grove, Kansas; one sister Jane White and husband Steve of Fargo, Oklahoma; two brothers Steve Schickedanz and wife Kay of Dumas, Texas; John Schickedanz of Rogers, Minnesota; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Schickedanz and two sisters Genta Marie Schickedanz and Ann Elizabeth (Schickedanz) Charmasson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
