Graveside services for Ted Slavin, 84, Higgins, Texas, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at the Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, Texas. Rev. Rick Floyd, Pastor, of the First Baptist Church of Arnett and Randy Thompson of Canadian officiated. Mr. Slavin passed away Saturday, May 15, 2004 in Canadian.
James Ted Slavin was born September 24, 1919 at Old Ochiltree, Texas to Raymond Arthur and Mary Pauline Buckley Slavin. He attended country schools in that area and graduated from Perryton High School in 1938. After graduation he attended Texas Tech University until he joined the Army. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Perryton and helped on the family farm. On May 6, 1944, Ted was united in marriage to Marilee Tepe in Pampa, Texas. To this union was born three children: Dona Dee, Jim Ted and Benny Bob. Ted and Marilee were married for 60 years and 9 days.
Ted spent his adult life trucking, farming, ranching and making friends. He owned and operated Slavin Livestock Transportation for 52 years. He was forced into retirement in 1993 due to failing health and has suffered declining health since that time. Ted was a long time member of the Higgins Masonic Lodge *820 and Higgins American Legion Post 509.
He was a very loving husband and father. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and especially took great pride helping and watching them ride horses and rodeo. His consuming love and close relationship with them brought him a great amount of joy and contentment during his later years. Ted was preceded in death on October 21, 1933 by his father, Arthur and younger brother Don Buckley Slavin due to an automobiles accident, his mother Pauline on October 3, 1992, his grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. J. W. Buckley and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his wife, Marilee of Higgins; a daughter, Dona Folks and husband Jim of Arnett; two sons, Jim Slavin and wife Mary of Miami, Texas; and Bob Slavin and wife Mavonteine of Higgins; a sister, Arline Hext of Canadian; one niece, Sue Bartlett of Canadian; one nephew, Bill Hext of Canadian; 7 grandchildren, Wade folks, Stacy Roberts, Jamie Landers, Rowdy Slavin, Rusty Slavin, Roper Slavin and Rae Lynn Gibbs; and 7 great grandchildren.
