Gwendolyn J. "Gwen" Stafford

Funeral services for Gwendolyn J. "Gwen" Stafford were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the Shattuck High School Auditorium. Interment was in the Shattuck Cemetery under the direction of Johnson's Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Shattuck.

Gwendolyn J. "Gwen" Stafford was born November 25, 1932 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Arthur and Henrietta Boudreau. She passed away June 25, 2004 at the St. Mary's Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma. She was 71 years of age.

She attended Shattuck High School and graduated in 1952. In 1955, she went to college at Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma where she received her diploma in Registered Nursing.

Gwen was united in marriage to Jim E. Stafford on July 25, 1968 and made their home in Shattuck, Oklahoma.

In 1985 she earned her Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing at Northwestern OSU College in Alva, Oklahoma.

Gwen worked at the Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, where she was the Director of Nursing for 38 years. During this time she initiated many programs to Newman Memorial Hospital. Some of her accomplishments included: INtensive Care Unit, the OR Surgical Care, Home Health, the WIC Program, Childhood Immunization Program, and she was instrumental in the JCAHO Certification of the hospital.

She was a dedicated and caring nurse for 48 years when she retired January 25, 2004. Gwen was admired by all those who worked with her. She worked in almost every area of Nursing and was very inspirational to others to pursue careers in the Health Care.

A "Retirement Party" was held for her in February 25, 2004. Many former nurses and guests attended in her honor. Even though she 'retired' she could not give up her dedication to the nursing profession and continued to work one day per week.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Shattuck and served as President of the Women's Ministry Department.

She is survived by her husband, two brothers, Wayne Boudreau and his wife Joanne of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Rex Boudreau and his wife Susan, of Seneca, Missouri. One sister, Norma Swanson and her husband Dennis, of Shattuck, Oklahoma, other relatives and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, A. J. Boudreau, and one sister Elaine Earnst.
