OBITUARY

Joel Burch Underwood, formerly of Hennessey, Oklahoma. Died at the home of his daughters, Mrs. J. M. Alyea, near Lonebell, Oklahoma, aged 72 years, 6 months and 25 days.

Mr. Underwood was born in Franklin County, Missouri, March 19, 1840, was married to Miss Eliza A. Bailey, to which union was born 8 children five of which with the mother preceded him to rest. The living children are: Frank Underwood, of Hennessey, Oklahoma, Mrs. Myrtle Alyea, of Lonebell, Okla., Mrs. Ellie Moxley, of Glendale, Arizona.

Mr. Underwood united with the church in early life and lived a devout Christian life. He had been in poor health for about two years, with kidney and heart trouble, about Christmas he became worse and dropsy set in, but had been feeling better for two weeks, he often spoke of his improving health, and expressed of feeling much better about twenty minutes before he died. In all his illness, he was very patient. He was a kind and loving father and neighbor and will be sadly missed by his friends.
