Famous General Came as Boy To Camp Near City
During the first summer after the Run of '89 federal troops were stationed here at a camp known as Camp MacArthur after the name of its commanding officer, Capt. Arthur McArthur.
Capt. McArthur was the father of Gen. Douglas McArthur, and the general as a boy used to play around the camp and swin in the Cottonwood when he came with his mother from Fort Leavenworth on occasional visits to the camp.
