Electric Lights Soon Replace Oil Lamps in Guthrie

Lights in Guthrie came after water. At first lanterns were hung in fron of tents and store buildings, followed by oil lamps on posts at various places.
On May 30, 1889, Guthrie granted a franchise for an electric ligh plant to Cincinnati men, who were also given franchises by East Guthrie, West Guthrie, and Capitol Hill.
this company immediately started work on the plant and began hanging wires on July 9 and turned on the current in early August.
