Transcontinental Mail

On September 19, 1858 the first transcontinental mail through Oklahoma started from St. Louis over the Butterfield Line. 192 miles of the trip, from Fort Smith to Colbert's Ferry, was through Oklahoma. The line was abolished in 1861.
