Pfc. Cory Taylor, 24-year-old son of Jerry G. Taylor and Shirley Chandler Taylor of Yukon, former Guthrie High School graduates and residents, is an Oklahoma Army National Guardsman currently station in the Persian Gulf. Taylor is the youngest grandson of Melvin Taylor and Georgia Leniger Long of Guthrie and fomer Guthrie residents W. D. "Hoppy" Chandler and Lela Biggs Chandler of Edmond.
Taylors 45th Infantry, 179th Battalion, Alpha A Unit was activiated in October and in January, 2003, was sent to the Middle East to guard Patriot Missle sites. Before being sent, he trained, updated military forms and paperwork, and received 20 inoculations at Fort Carson, Colorado and Ft. Gruber, Okla. from September, 2002 - December, 2002.
After graduating from Yukon High School, Taylor joined the Army National Guard, was an armed Loomis Guard and attended Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City majoring in Police Science to become a policeman like his grandfather, "Hoppy" Chandler, retired Guthrie Police Lieutenant. He and his wife Jennifer, a native of Mustang, have been married almost 4 years.
Taylor is stationed in Saudi Arabia until the end of July 2003 or possibly longer.
