The Mulhall Enterprise
Saturday, January 22, 1898

Barbara E. Barnthouse, the wife of J.M. Barnthouse, died at their farm 3 miles south and 2 miles east of Mulhall, Logan county, Oklahoma, the 20th day of Jan. 1898 at ten minutes past eight o'clock a.m. Her age was 54 years and 5 months. She was born in Germany in the year of 1843, on the 20 day of Aug. and she and her parents (John Myer) moved to America and located in Holmes county, Ohio. On the 13th day of July 1865, Barbara E. Myer and J.M. Barnthouse were married in Holmes county, Ohio. On the 1st of January 1873 they moved to Columbus, Ohio, where they lived until March 1884. From Columbus they moved to Winfield, Kansas and in the spring of 1897 they moved to Arkansas City where they lived till the spring of 1859 when they moved to the present place of residence. She leaves her husband and 5 children to mourn her loss. All of her children are of age except George, the youngest, age 20. She also leaves eleven grandchildren. Mrs. B was a kind and loving wife and mother and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She was a member of the German Lutheran Church since she was 14 yrs of age, she was also a member of the Sisters of Rebekah, also a member and vice pres of the G A R Ladies Circle. She had a host of friends who mourn her loss. She was buried in the Summit View Cemetery near Guthrie, O.T. She was familiarly called "Mother" by the young people of the community and by the young men of her neighborhood. Six of them were selected to act as pall bearers as follows: Jessie Heiman, Artie Heiman, Ora James, Will Gooch, D. Blakesley, Oscar Langrich. S.E. McNeal acted as funeral director. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. D.W. Keifer, M.E. Minister of Mulhall O.T. Text Ecc'l 12-5 "Man goeth to his long home and the mourners go about the streets."
