Funeral services for Beatrice Inez Brewer, 81, of Coyle will be held Monday, March 24, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater with interment following in Clarkson Cemetery in Coyle
Beatrice was born Nov. 14, 1921 in Jenks to Ruffis Gish and Ruby Hoffman Gish. She went to be with our Lord on March 18, 2003 at Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater.
She graduated from Jenks High School in 1937 and attended Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater. She moved to the Clarkson area of Payne County with her family when her mother was the teacher at Clarkson School. Beatrice taught at Clarkson when her mother became ill.
Beatrice married Warren Brewer on Dec. 29, 1941 and helped with the family farm. They moved to their own farm in 1947, where Beatrice lived out her life. Beatrice raised berries, fruits and melons along with eggs and creams which were sold at local markets in Coyle and Stillwater in the early farm years. She helped Warren with the cattle, hay and grain operation until his death in 1998.
Beatrice loved her flowers and gardening along with the hundreds of wild binds she fed each winter. She enjoyed visits from her family and cooking for them.
She was a member of the United Brethren Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Gunkel and husband Jim of Coyle; two sons, Lee Brewer of Tulsa and Joel Brewer and wife Becky of Houston and Ponca City; granddaughter Michelle Brewer of Ponca City; two grandsons, Robbie Gunkel and wife Dana and Jason Gunkel and wife Stacy; great-grandchildren Austin, Wesley, Verle Donnie, Dayln and Stacy, all of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Gerald Gish and wife Pat of Phoenix, Ariz. and Keith Gish and wife Doris of Oklahoma City and one stepsister, Francis Graham of Edmond.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother-in-law, Ralph Brewer; a stepbrother, Zen Beck, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Beck Brewer.
