Raymond Albert Bollenbach of Crescent passed away February 3, 2004. Ray was born July 18, 1914, to Claude and Gertrude Jones Bollenbach of rural Kingfisher County. After high school, Ray married Thelma Juanita Oswald and they had twin daughters Velta June and Velda Jean. Ray was working in the ship yards in California during WWII, but entered the Navy in 1945-1946 to help defend his country. He served in the Pacific Theater on the Isle of Ulithi. Following the war, Ray returned to the Crescent area where he farmed on his 240 acre homestead and operated construction crews building round-top barns and homes, employing many men of the Crescent area over the next 30 years. Ray “retired” from the construction business and farming in the early 1970’s. After his wife suffered a stroke in 1998, Ray and other family members lovingly took care of her until her death in 1999. Ray and Thelma had to say goodbye for a time, after 64 years of companionship, until he joined her this past Tuesday at the age of 89.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, daughter Velta June, brothers Glen, Clyde, and Irvin and sister Hazel Bollenbach Wakeman, and Son-in-Law James Edward Billings.
Ray is survived by His daughter, Velda of Crescent, Granddaughters Karen K. Hamel (Chris Hamel) of Oklahoma City, and Kristi Gant (David Gant) of Crescent, Great Grandchildren Tavis Gant of St. Charles, MO, Jamie Gant of Stillwater, and Kristin Anthony of Oklahoma City. Ray had four great-great-grandchildren by Tavis and by marriage also had three great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter and was proud of being able to represent five generations with them all.
In lieu of flowers donations to a charity of your choice will be equally appreciated by the family.
Services to be at 11:00 AM Saturday Feb. 7, at Oak Valley Baptist Church, Pastor David Gant officiating, with interment at Oakland-Knowles Cemetery.
(Arrangements by Abernathy Funeral Home of Crescent.)
