Funeral services for Tilda Jane Cox. 75, of Crescent will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at Crescent Assembly of God church with Pastor Mark LeMarr officiating. Interment will follow in Crescent Cemetery under the direction of Abernathy Funeral Home.
Cox was born May 1, 1927 in Crescent to Harlan Cox and Lillie (Franchsieur) Cox. She died Feb. 4, 2003 in Guthrie.
She graduated from Crescent High School in 1945. She worked at Ryland's Grocery Store for 12 years. She had always been an active member of the Crescent Assembly of God and received Jesus as her Savior and Lord at a revival in 1949. Tilda began teaching the beginner Sunday School class later that year, and continued teaching it for 53 years. The General Council of the Assemblies of God, the District Council of Oklahoma and others had honored and recognized Tilda as an outstanding teacher. She was Henrietta Mears National Sunday School Teacher of the Year.
Tilda never married or had children of her own, although she is considered a mother to many people as she touched a lot of lives. She babysat many children over a course of 35 years. Tilda also took care of her mother at home from 1989 until her mother passed away in 1995.
She was also preceded in death by her father, Harlan, and a great-nephew.
Survivors include two brothers, Joe Cox of Pampa, Texas and Robert Cox of Enid; six nieces, eight great-nephews and four great-nieces.
Viewing will take place Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Abernathy Funeral Home in Crescent.
