Graveside services for Lillie May Disbrow, 93, of Guthrie will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at IOOF Cemetery in Tonkawa with the Rev. Richard Thomasson officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Guthrie.
Disbrow was born September 23, 1909 in Billings, Oklahoma to Jessie M. and Dora M. (Beagle) Smith. She died Sunday, June 22, 2003 in Guthrie.
Lillie grew up in the farming areas of Billings and Tonkawa. She attended university preparatory school and taught in a country school for two years. In 1930, she married James A Disbrow and the spent the early years of their marriage in Blackwell, where both children were born before moving to Oklahoma City. At the end of World War II, they moved back to Tonkawa, where they felt they had returned home. She had lived in Guthrie since 1993.
Lillie had three main emphases in her life; her immediate family, her church and her relatives. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Tonkawa, serving as church clerk and church secretary. She taught Sunday school to almost every age group, from three-year-olds to senior adults. She was a friend, confidant, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Perhaps her greatest gift was her deep faith, that she never wavered. All who knew her will miss her wit and wisdom. Eternal rest grant to her, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon her.
Survivors include two children, Barbara VanLaasnen of Oklahoma City and Jimmie Lynn Disbrow and wife Laura of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren, Dara VanLaanen, Erin VanLaanen-Miles, Kerry VanLaanen, Malaga, Marguerita-Disbrow-Trent and Jeremy Charles Disbrow, two great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Elena Malaga, and a host of other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her five sisters and two brothers and her beloved husband, Jim.
The casket will not be open at any time during the services.
