Funeral services for Retired Marine Captain Wm. E. Douglass, 82, of Guthrie will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2003 at the First Assembly of God Church in Guthrie with the Rev. Don Gatlin officiating. Burial will follow in Summit View cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
Douglass was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1920 to Lloyd and Sara Ann Douglass. He passed away May 25, 2003 in Guthrie.
A former Guthrie High School cheerleader, he went on to join the U. S. Marine in 1938. He served in World War II and the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart.
He returned home to Guthrie in 1973 to do what he loved - prepare good food at the Town House Cafe and brag about removing the calories from his desserts.
He married Lillie Belle Golaway on April 22, 1941 in Yuma, Ariz. She survives at home.
Along with Belle, Bill is also survived by three children, Wm. Daniel and wife Jean Douglass of St. Joseph, Mo., Patricia Moniz of Guthrie and Lloyd and wife Betty Douglass of Oriskany, N.Y., 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one half-sister, three sister-in-laws and three brother-in-laws.
Visitation for friends and family will take place Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The family suggest memorials be made to the First Assembly of God Church or the charity of your choice.
