Graveside funeral services for W. B. Blackie Evans, 72, of Guthrie, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Glenwood cemetery of Perkins, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Guthrie. He was born December 30, 1930, in Bryan County, OK. He died September 2nd at Logan Hospital and Medical Center. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U. S. Army.

W. B. "Blackie" Evans died September 2, 2003 at Logan Hospital and Medical Center after a short illness.

"Blackie" worked in construciton for many years and before retiring, worked for the Guthrie Board of Education retiring in 1985. He married Martha Ann Brown May 25, 1957 in Guthrie where they lived for the past 44 years.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He received a field ranking of Sergeant during the battle for Pork Chop Hill.

"Blackie" was born December 30, 1930 in Bryan County, Oklahoma to John and Marry Jane Parker Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jessie, Herschel, Dee, L. B. Kenneth Herman, sisters Ardelia, Christine, and nephew Ryan.

Survivors include his wife, Martha, of the home, brothers Johnnie & Gail Evans of Muskogee, Lonnie & Wanda Evans of Oklahoma City, Therman & Darlene Evans of Altus, sister Patsy & Don Parrot of Durant, 40 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Also brothers-in-law Ed & Norvalea Brown, Allen & Sheri Brown of Guthrie, Carl & Roberta Brown of Las Lunas, New Mexico, Richard & Kathy Brown of Wichita, KS, sisters-in-law Mary & Delbert Maker, Nelda Brown of Guthrie, Carolyn & Cecil Hamilton of Harrah, OK.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Meridian Volunteer Fire Department or the American Heart Association.

Services were under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Guthrie.
