Funeral services for W. E. (Edward) Edens, 88, formerly of Guthrie, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home Chapel in Diana, Texas. Burial followed in Walnut Creek Cemetery in Upshur County, Texas under the direction of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home.
Edward was born December 23, 1914 in Willow Grove, Tenn. to J. H. Edens and Laura Edens Tatum. He passed away July 6, 2003 at his home in Ore City, Texas after a lengthy illness.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy 5th Marine Division during World War II, taking part in the invasion of Iwo Jima. He was retired from the Cabot Corporation. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and had been a deacon for more than 15 years with the First Baptist Church of Ore City, Texas.
He was a wonderful loving person and will be missed by all the lives he touched.
He married Tawanda Walker on February 14, 1942 in Guthrie. She survives at home after 61 years of marriage.
Other survivors include one daughter Ann Braud and husband Jerry of Ore City; three sons, David Edens and wife Theresa, Mike Edens and wife Lyn and Terry Don Edens and wife Paula; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Stella Berg and Velda Sears and husband Raymond, all of Guthrie, and lots of nieces and nephews, including Sharon Kearns, Don Benton, Ralph Blair and Damon Devereaux, all of Guthrie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three sisters, Ressa Blair, Eunice Larrick and Etta Edens and three brothers, Eston, Frank and John Edens.
