Capt. John A. Gilbert died suddenly at the Santa Fe depot later Tuesday. He had purchased a ticket for Mulhall, where he was going on business, before the train pulled in he was suddenly attacked with hemorrhage of the lung, and before he could be removed to his home on East Harrison Avenue he expired.
Capt. Gilbert was born October 11, 1847, at Manchester, Mass., where he was educated in the schools and academy. He served during the civil war in the 25h Mass., and also in a heavy artillery regiment of that state. After the war, he married and moved to Concordia, Kansas, and from there he came to Guthrie and was one of the '89ers. He was a prominent and public-spirited citizen of Guthrie, and also became interest in property in Oregon. He leaves a wife and one son, J. Carleton Gilbert, who is a prominent worker in the federal department of agriculture and is now, located in Washington City.
