Bessie Faye Hembree, 86, died peacefully at home in Yukon, Wednesday, April 21, 2004.
She was born to Lee and Nellie Thompson, Nov. 6, 1917, in Agra. She married Rev. Harry B. Hembree on July 12, 1936, at Tonkawa. Faye actively shared in the life of her husband's ministry in the Disciple of Christ Christian churches in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma throughtout their 53 years of marriage. She was an outstanding musician, taught piano and organ, and served as music director and organist in numerous churches they served. While living in Palestine, Texas, she taught music at Four Pines Elementary School. She loved working with children and, especially, enjoyed writing and organizing programs for Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible Schools. She was, also active in CWF programs within the church. Faye always cared for others and enthusistically volunteered wherever she could help. Her life's goal was "Live and help live." Her giving nature and bright smile made her many friends wherever she lived. Her family was her first love, and they were blessed by her positive influence in their lives.
Ms. Hembree was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Rev. Harry B. Hembree, and son-in-law, Jack G. Trench. She is survived by her son, Clayton B. Hembree and wife, Frances, of Guthrie; and daughter, Darla H. Trench, of Yukon; four grandchildren; Will, Keri, David and Cindy; nine great-grandchildren, a sister, Edna Mae Turner, of Woodland Hills, Calif.; and a brother, Gerald L. Thompson, of Mesa, Ariz.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hembree will be held on Monday, April 26, at 10 a.m. in the First Christian Church of Edmond. Burial will be held in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery in Tonkawa at 2 p.m.
Services are under the direction of the Matthews Funeral Home of Edmond.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Breakfast on Boulevard through the First Christian Church, P.O. Box 3548, Edmond, Oklahoma 73083.
