Mrs. Ovell Francis Haynes was born February 3, 1919, in Hugo, Oklahoma, one of ten children born to the union of Tom and Simmie Ellis./
The family settled in Tallahassee, Oklahoma, where as a young woman she attended Flipper Key Elementary School and graduated from Mark Hanna High School. She attended Langston University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1950.
After graduation, she moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma where she worked as a nurses aid. In 1965 her dreams came true, when she started as a Head Start Teacher. Her love for children allowed her to continue teaching until her retirement in 1989.
She married A. G. Haynes, Sr., on June 13, 1981, at Mount Olive Friendship Baptist Church, who preceded her in death.
Ms. Hatnes was the last of her brothers and sisters to be called to Glory. Ovell never had any natural children, however, her theme song: If I Can Help Somebody, reigned throughout her life. She leaves hundreds of Head Start students. She also leaves step-children, step-grand & great-grandchildren. She also leaves nieces, nephews, grand & great-grand nieces and nephews living through the country.
Servies are Saturday, October 11, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Olive Friendship Baptist Church.
