Jack S. Koen Succumbs to Long Illness
Jack Sherman Koen, 25 son of Mrs. Ernest Offen, former Guthrian, died Sunday evening at Winter Veterans Hospital, Topeka Kansas, after a four mounts illness.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p. m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church with Rev. Harold Enz officiating assisted by Rev. W. R. Gibble. Burial will be in Summit View Cemetery under direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Koen had spent six weeks in Will Rogers V. A. Hospital at Oklahoma City before being transferred to Topeka. He was born May 27, 1925 in Guthrie and attended schools here. He graduated from Guthrie Highschool where he was a member of the highschool band.
He studied at Oklahoma University, Norman in the school or Architecture before entering naval air service, from which he was honorably discharged June,6, 1946 with a rating of AOM third class with air bombard wings.
Koen married Dorothy Mae Simpson November 30,1946 and they had two children, Sherene Ann and George Jerome Koen. Koen Had reentered the University of Oklahoma after a year in California and had resumed his studies in architectural design. He was a member of student chapter A.I.A. and Tricon, both architectural organizations, and was also member of DeMolay ands the First Christian Church of Guthrie.
Survivors besides his wife and two children and mother and stepfather included his grandmother Mrs. W. S. Griswold, Guthrie, and a step sister Mrs. Charles Baldry, Roscoe, Tex.
Pallbearers will include Harold Purdum Jr., Byron Brown, L. B. Reed, Dale Cook, Lorraine Keller, Ernie Simpson, and Billy Travis.
