Emma Lee Godbey Leonard, 85, of Guthrie, Okla., died Feb. 17, 2001, at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma, at the age of 85. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Guthrie, with Rev. Terry Martindale officiating. Arrangements were by Davis Funeral Home of Guthrie.
Mrs. Leonard was born May 12, 1915 to Josiah J. and Emma Lee (Taylor) Godbey in Arlington, Texas, (on what is now the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington where her father was president). She attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
She married Adolphe Leonard of Chickasha on July 26, 1936; they lived in Chickasha, Muskogee and Ponca City, Oklahoma; Phoenix and Sun City, Arizona; and, for the past five years, in Guthrie.
Mrs. Leonard was an active lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband and by their three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Karen Leonard of Edmond, Jack and Karen Kay Leonard of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Bob and Connie Leonard of Eugene,Oregon. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
