Mass of Christian burial for Leah Lena Lowery, 83, of Guthrie was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guthrie with the Rev. Cletus M. Bash officiating. Cremation will follow afterwards. Services are under the directon of Davis Funeral Home in Guthrie.
Lowery was born Jan. 13, 1920 in Windham, N. Y. to Newell and Leona Bining. She died Saturday, June 7, 2003 in Guthrie.
Leah had lived in this area for the past 23 years, moving from New York to Oklahoma City in 1977, then to Guthrie in 1980. She was a housewife and homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guthrie. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Women of Rural Meridian (WORM).
She was married to Stanton Sherow for 36 years, and then was married to Woodrow Lowery in 1984 for a blessed 17 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one son, Alvin Hankinson, one step-daughter, Ruth Ann Ramsey, one brother, Carl Bining and one grandson, Wellington Boughton.
Survivors include two sons, George Hankinson of Meridian and Stanton Sherow of Holbrook, N. Y.; three daughters, Charlotte Reed and husband Richard of Oklahoma City, Joanna Cosetti and husband Mike of Guthrie and Diane Pross and husband John of Guthrie; one stepson, William Lowery and wife Darlene of Stillwater; one stepdaughter, Laura Johnston and husband Jack of Tahlequah; two sisters, Louise Warden of Walton, N. Y. and Estelle Tully and husband John of Pearlington, Miss; six grandchildren, Stacy McKinney and husband Tim of Coyle, Tammy Boughton of Oklahoma City, John Pross and wife Brandi of Guthrie, Kimberly Pross of Piqua, Ohio, Sarina Tessneer and husband Mark of Guthrie and Wesley Sherow of Holbrook, N. Y.; seven step-grandchildren, William Lowery and wife Elinda of Guthrie, Kevin Lowery of Tennessee, Aleshia Graham and husband Joe of Guthrie, Jackie Peterson of Edmond, Donald Johnston of Oklahoma City, Freda Allsbrook of Oklahoma City and Terry Ramsey of Oklahoma City.
A prayer vigil was held Monday, June 9, 2003 at 7 p.m. at Davis Funeral Chapel with Deacon Roy Ellis officiating.
