Leon Lloyd passed away Thursday, August 21, 2003 at a local hospital in Midland, Texas
Leon affectionately called "Pups" by friends and family, was born on February 22, 1926 to Olen Winfrey Lloyd and Dora Dean Lloyd in Collinsville, Oklahoma. Most of Leon's childhood was spent on a farm in Owasso, Oklahoma where he was reared and educated. Leon attended the Oklahoma Military Academy until 1943 when he joined the Navy and served until 1947. On December 17, 1948, he married Juanita "Nita" McGuire who passed away on June 13, 1990. In 1992, he received the OMA Distinguished Alumnus Award, followed in 1993 with the Jefferson Fellow award, the highest recognition that can be accorded by the Rogers State University in Claremore, OK. In May of 1993, he married Dorothy Gorges Hill in Las Vegas, NV. Mr. Lloyd was a loyal employee of Sinclair Oil and ARCO Chemicals from 1948-1974 when he established Lloyd Chemical Sales, Inc., which brought him great joy and a great challenge. Leon was a Chemical Broker in the Petroleum Industry. Leon was active in the Associations of, The Exchange Club, The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 9, The American Legion, the Tennessee Band Cherokee, The High Sky Division of the Commemorative Air Force, was also an active member of the NRA, and received numerous Master Competition Sharp Shooter Awards.
Leon is survived by his wife Dorothy Hill Lloyd; sisters, Dee Lloyd Acree of Albuquerque, N.M.; Margaret Lloyd Heisserer of Norman, OK; three children, James Robert "Jim" Lloyd and wife Nancy Lloyd of Tulsa, OK; Jana Lloyd Koehn and her husband Don Koehn of Houston, TX; Rex Alan Lloyd and his wife Virginia Lloyd of Pearland, TX; six grandchildren, Scott Tucker, U.S. Army; Suni Cox Parks and her husband Curtis Parks of Las Vegas, NV; James Robert "Buddy" Lloyd of Kansas City, MO; Jamie Lloyd of Lawrence, KS; Christopher Lloyd of Tulsa, OK; Geoggrey Lloyd of Pearland, TX; three stepchildren, Will Hill and wife Jennifer of Ecuador, S.A.; Nancy Maples and husband Brian of Llano, TX; Tommy Hill and wife Sherea of Midland, TX; and three step-grandchildren, Travis Maples of Llano, TX; Clayton Maples of Llano, TX; and Kaden Hill of Midland, TX.
Graveside Services were held Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at Fairview Cemetery with Reverend Larry Bailey Associate Pastor of St. Lukes United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
