Raymond Ernest Lewis, 87, died March 17, 2004, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, N. M.

He was born Sept. 19, 1916, near Guthrie to Ernest Lewis and Matilda Taylor Lewis Goss. When he was very young, his family moved to Arkansas City, Kan. He was educated in the Arkansas City Public Schools.

In 1937, he married Enna Wordlow of Arkansas City, Kan. Their only child, Delano Eugene Lewis, was born in 1938.

In 1942, the family moved to Kansas City, Kan. where Raymond was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years before his retirement. He continued to live in the greater Kansas City area where he was a member of Eighth Street Baptist Church for over fifty years.

In August 2003, he moved to Las Cruces, N. M. to be near his son and daughter-in-law, Delano and Gayle Lewis.

His wife Enna Lewis preceded him in death in 1971. In addition to his parents, one brother, LeRoy Lewis, preceded him in death.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, four grandsons, six great-grandsons, five great-granddaughters, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
