Funeral services for James Harvey Morris, 58, of Crescent will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2003 at Chandler Funeral Home in DeQueen, Arkansas. Burial will follow in Overturf Cemetery in Gillhah, Arkansas. There will also be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Crescent.
Morris was born April 19, 1945 in DeQueen, Arkansas to Buck and Minnie Morris of Gillham, Arkansas. He died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 after losing his battle with cancer.
After graduation from Gillham High School in 1963, he attended Southern State College in Magnolia, Arkansas majoring in animal science and agriculture education, where he was also a member of the livestock judging team. After two years at Southern State, he transferred to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. While at OSU his junior year, he won first place individual and his team won first place at the annual senior college livestock judging contest at the Southwestern Exposition in Fort Worth, Texas. After graduating from OSU, he attended Texas A&M for awhile, then taught at Southern State, then returned to Oklahoma. For the past 33 years, he had worked at the Oklahoma City Stockyards as a cattle broker.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Thomas "Buck" Morris, in September 2000, a brother, Johnny Morris, in April 1999, and a nephew Brain Morris in August 2001.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Lynda; three sons, Shawn of Guthrie, Jamie and daughter-in-law Misty of Crescent and Jeffrey of Santa Clara, Calif.; one daughter, Shannon Freitag and son-in-law Craig of Santa Clara, Calif.; two grandsons, Blake and Tristan; four granddaughters, Savannah, Mikaela, Sonita and Savanna; his mother, Minnie Morris of Gillham, Ark.; three brothers, Marvin Morris of Moore, David Morris and Scottie Morris of Gillham and two sisters, Sandra Oglesby and Kathy Sadder of Gillham.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made payable to the Harvey Morris Scholarship Fund, FFA at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Crescent.
