Marthena Burton McConnel, daughter of Susan Dorothy McDowell and John William McConnel, led a charmed life from the day she was born, on March 22, 1911, until Alzheimer's claimed her life on January 12, 2001.
She cruised around the tip of South America, climbed the highest peaks in Colorado and handed out balloons, Bibles and Christian literature to the Communists in Russia.
Marthena, known to family and friends as "Aunt Babe," never married, but was instrumental in the rearing of her five nieces and nephews, who invite the public to join them at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17 at the First Christian Church in Crescent to celebrate the life of "Aunt Babe" and send her on her way to Glory in a spirit-filled service of music, verse and scripture.
Services will be under the direction of Community Funeral Home in Guthrie. Public viewing will be on Tuesday, January 16 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Community Funeral Home Chapel.

She is survived by one sister, Gabrielle Aloysius McConnel Yenzer, of Guthrie; nieces Margaret Ann McConnel Singer, of Karlsruhe, Germany, Kveta Royce Yenzer Smith and her husband, Royal, of Altus; nephews John Acton McConnel, of Okmulgee, Dwight Lyndon Yenzer and his wife, Sharon, of Tulsa, and Joseph Edward McConnel and his wife, Donna, of Oklahoma City; great-nephew John Michael Stuart Singer, of New York City; great niece Courtney Dyan McConnel Gontier and her husband, Patrice, of Courbevoie, France; cousin Mary McConnel Lemaster, of Magnum.
Services will be under the direction of Community Funeral Home in Guthrie. Burial will be at Goble Cemetery near Meeker, Okla.
